Rose McGowan Says She is 'Barbarella' but She Shouldn't

Back in October 2007 word was that the budget and face of Rose McGowan, a.k.a. the woman director Robert Rodriguez divorced his wife for, as the lead was enough for Universal to say, "Nope," to the remake of Barbarella>. Well, McGowan tells MTV that just ain't the case.
McGowan tells the site, "[The news that I was out] was really irritating because I know all the people over there and obviously it wasn’t true. It was very malicious and there was no proof... Oftentimes these things have basis in truth but this didn’t. I have contracts to prove it."
Oh, go on Rose, prove you are in a remake of a movie that is utter trash! If it wasn't for the promise of Jane Fonda floating nude in space at the beginning, areolae popping up everywhere and the awkwardly interesting Pleasure Organ this movie never would have made it passed the script stage. It is awful and a complete piece of trash. McGowan, despite being a self-professed "fan of the original" (yeah, right) admits there isn't much to go on.
"The original doesn’t have a lot to go on plot-wise," she says. "It’s one thing to do a remake of something that could have been much better storywise even if it was fantastic visually. It’s another thing to remake something flawless. That way if yours isn’t that good at least yours is better than that one."
Great, so we have one shitty movie and we can look forward to a movie that will at least be a little better. Way to sell it Rose!
McGowan seems to believe the film will get made, but the possibility of an actors' strike hurts its chances. She reports costumes are made and half the sets, including her spaceship, have been built.
Honestly, Rodriguez has a twisted enough mind and visual sense to make this story work, but the fact that the first one was rated PG and would now receive an R within the time span of 5 minutes I am curious as to what they will go for. If Robert Wade has written a script that really taps into sexual exploration and doesn't just paint Barbarella as an intergalactic whore caught in a story that a five-year-old could have written then I am game. But if they try to pay homage to the original more than once (likely the opening scene*) it will be a complete waste of time.
* The Pleasure Organ would also be accepted.
