Plot:
Shinya Tsukamoto draws on the marriage of flesh and technology that inspires so much of David Cronenberg's work and then twists it into a manga-influenced cyberpunk vision. A man (Tomoroh Taguchi) awa...( read more

Tsukamoto is a mixed bag for me. He is highly innovative but sometimes his story telling is a bit lost on me. Iron man is definitely a great film, but a classic of cult asian cinema? I wouldn't honor it with that title, in fact tsukamoto's snake of june is far more impressive.
Amazing special effects, driven incredibly fast. It combined film b-film anime-stlye gore, with experimental fragmented imagery, there was almost no narrative and very little dialoge, for those of you who haven't seen it its basically about a man who...(read more)se body starts springing shards of metal and wire, his body mutating in homicidal convolutions till he meets another man who is mutating similarly and the two of them brutally fight, and eventually become one in sexual/parasitical way, and decided to destroy the world together. I really liked it, because I had never really seen anything like it, it was definitely its own animal. This is a hyperkinetic video-game like thrill ride that sears it's machine right into your spine and doesn't let go till long after. The story is minimal, and those looking for a well developed sensitive story of "human" development will be lost by a film whose primary modus operendi is "dehumanization"(not unlike Cronenberg's "Crash"), and accelerated to light speed. The rate of the film, the near overnight transformation reflects the rapid changes in an information society, where technology and the objects of technology take on different, psychologiical and sexual dimensions. This is reflected down to the monochrome black and white world which the characters inhabit. This change is as violent and grotesque as it is breakneck, and shares as much in common with the visual avate garde assualts of Kenneth Anger, as it does hypervoilent anime. With certain films it is as important "how" we watch as it is "what" we watch, with the right perspective Tetsuo: Iron Man, is a odd and fascinating artifact of modern Japanese cinematic pop, and essential viewing with anyone interested in seeing what "else" film can do.
Uh... what was that? Not sure I'll find out but it was sure exhilarating. For its length it's impressive that this had as many events going on. A weird, schizophrenic adrenaline-rushed showdown with a peculiar story this is. In other words: you want a delivering "Iron Man" film? Then skip the overrated one currently in theaters, look for "Tetsuo" and get ready to absorb cybernetic insanity.
An experimental surrealist and bizarre journey into the disturbing human obsession and psyche. Tetsuo goes beyond anything that is possible of achieving in film-making. The outstanding and unique vision and effects of Shinya Tsukamoto, although they remind me of giant short director Jan Svankmajer, add an enormous beauty and complexity to what this 69 minute-film tries to transmit. Words cannot describe the greatness of this film. Amazing, unique, bloody, violent, scary, creepy, graphic, surreal, bizarre, disturbing, original: Tetsuo.
96/100
Another freaky film from Japan that needs t o be watched under the influence I think. The scenes were filmed in a cool surreal way, that it was hard to make out was going on some of the time. Will definitely watch this again at some point I think I might like it even more then.
A surrealistic work of art! The debut of Tsukamoto is an amazing tour de force reminiscent to Cronenberg and David Lynch's best efforts. A true psychological horror, elaborated and original. Fantastic!
Attention those who are open for somewhat different movie experiences... Because this got to be one of the best friggi'n movies in the world, and if it's not, it is the most original and unpredictable movies ever! A hyper-trippy and surrealistic experience of comic book action, sex, gore, nightmarish imagery, cyberpunk, and stop motion. That's right, STOP MOTION! I remember getting caught by myself with my mouth wide open, just staring at the screen during a street chase between a suit-man made of 90% scrap metal, and a man with the ability to control metal, all in minutes of stop motion in insane tempo (not forgetting the fact they had gooey jet-boosters growing from their heels)! I don't want to spoil the plot too much, but if you would have the chance to see this spectacle, DO IT!!!
That not recommended for sensitive people. Its scenes are incredibly cruel. It describes the industrial society as the cruelest
phew! what a movie! it's really hard to understand this movie... but the atmosphere, music, visualization, expression... it's like... it's not a movie with story... but it's more like a movie with a lot of message about humanity and technology... how will the technology will devour human if you rely to much on your technology... how sex can be imagined and exploited while murdering the mind... wow... what can i say is... watch this movie... and judge it by yourself...
It may not be a perfect film, but it is strangely fascinating and hipnotic. An interesting experiment in filmmaking.
I understand the film about as much as anyone else does, which is vaguely. It's a blend of Eraserhead and Un Chien Andalou, a surrealist film that tries to overload instead of really entertain, methinks. After a while it gets kind of boring. All in all it was good, but I just think it was kind of overrated.
Straight down the middle. You have to be in one weird-ass mood to sit through this Japanese horror flick
Tetsuo is a messed up movie! A guy starts attracting metal objects that fuse to his body. This metamorphosis turns him evil and he starts to kill.
This movie was black and white. I hate black and white film. I don't think they could have pulled this one off in color though. The special effects were good but I think they would have fallen apart in color.
This is one of my new favorites. I love the low budget, high gore of it all. It was a cinematic masterpiece.
This film is Shinya Tsukamoto's brilliant techno-fetishist nightmare. Shot on 16 and 35-MM for very cheap and with hardly any dialogue. Not for the faint of heart, make sure you know what your getting yourself into before Netflixing this one.
This looks pretty fucked up! haha! The preview made it look really hilariously weird. Sounds like fun!
An astoundingly visceral audio/visual experience, 'Tetsuo' is one of those very rare maverick movies, like 'Man with a Movie Camera' and 'Eraserhead', that will probably never date and will inspire movie-makers for decades into the future (such as Aronofsky - 'Pi').
Beautiful, savage, sexy, funny and completely deranged - it's a masterpiece of fucked-up film-making. Bored by the latest Hollywod fare - then check this out and be blown away.
One of the best films ever made for the sheer fact that on a shoestring budget, half of the things in this film were possible. Great story, acting,FX,and soundtrack set to the backdrop of factories and machinery. A lot of opinions of what this film is really about although the most obvious one is how technology is such a big part of our lives that it consumes us and becomes a part of us. A great film for aspiring filmmakers especially because this is how you make your debut in the film industry!
If you like bizarre, here it is. It reminds me of a japanese Eraserhead. Not in story, but the way it felt. Not one I would buy, but I would definately watch it again.
I couldn't stop watching this. I had to re-buy it on DVD. It is a very fast paced movie. Technology above all.
The ultimate slice of twisted mechanical Japanese goodness. like a feature length industrial music video.great story, great cinematography, great acting, great FX, great music. and a badass drill(a la Dead Leaves). As another Flicker said, it is the closest thing to live action anime. Good stuff.
a crazy, schizoid nightmare with great music, wicked special effects, and insane camera work...this is the closest thing to anime come to life that ive yet seen...this is just out there awesomeness
