This movie actually turned out to be awesome! It has amazing action sequences mixed in with Jack Blacks funny ego! A must see!
few chuckles along the way but nothing that jumped out at me and made me LOL. i did enjoy the references and how they tied in with the characters but was more of a monsters inc than a shrek.
KUNG FU PANDA (2008)
directed by Mark Osbourne & John Stevenson
featuring the voices of Jack Black, Dustin Hoffman, Angelina JolieThe opening sequence is worth the price of the ticket. Its a dream sequence looking like classical animation mixed with some manga style. Its very funny and colorful. Then the film begins, its looks like something we've seen before. A Panda who is supposed to be destined to make noodles cant tell his dad he'd prefer to do martial arts. Circumstances bring him to become the chosen one to fight an escaped tiger who knows more kung fu than Bruce Lee himself. Obviously our friend is clumsy, likes to eat and burp, driving other real kung fu master a little mad.Kung Fu Panda is a lot of fun, its a short film, which helps, its colorful and there are plenty of funny gags. My main problem was about too many childish moments, well, I know, its for kids, so I wont complain too long about that. There is a lot of talent behind the voices though and thats part of the main interest for this film, cause all the actors do great and its obviously they are having fun, even though we cant really see them. Kung Fu Panda is not a masterpiece of animation but its a film with no pretentions, it feels fresh despite its use of old themes, and there are some pretty amazing moment of animation. Couldnt ask for more to be entertained for a little over one hour. Not bad.
I love the story.. thought it was so funny. I liked it as much as my kids did. Even a fat panda can kick butt if he tries hard enough.
I've certainly seen worse children's movies. This had some very clever plays on the martial arts genre, as well as some not-so-clever ones... and the ending "twist" was complete nonsense. But very seldom was I annoyed with it, which is a huge step in an animated children's movie. Not a great movie (you're still better off renting something from Pixar) but not an awful one either.
Kung Fu Panda is Cute and funny. it has some really good quotes, The PANDA was Adorable, after all, they're the cutest animal on earth, well! one of the cutest.
i dont really like Kung Fu much and thats the reason why i didnt like it much, but after all, its pretty nice movie..
The graphics are amazing and the most amazing thing movie has is the quotes as they're memorable. Kung Fu Panda is a movie about a lazy panda who wants to do something better with his life then to end up being at the kitchen, but he is so lazy, but as he gets the opportunity to make his dreams come true, would he be able to? now thats the question.
Very nice movie for the kids.
Hilarious!!!! this movie has moments that would make you want to drop to the floor dying of laughter. This movie also scores with the fantastic line-up of A-list actors and Jack Black shines as Po Panda. Overall this movie is Amazing!!!!
So, I went to see this movie not knowing what to expect and I emerged from the cinema in love with it. This movie is very said to be very true to Kung Fu and is hilarious aswell. The jokes are good, animation is brill and the characters are enjoyable. I recommednd to see it as soon as you can. You won't be disappointed!
This movie is about a panda who was chosen to be the dragon warrior ... his job was to kill tailiang .... quite funny
This movie was LEGENDARY!!! Stuff of LEGEND!!! Your biceps sore! waawwwww!
Totally awesome movie. Loved Po's dad, loved Po. And Tailung was cool as well! Ugwe so ruled! "There are no accidents". God, so many quotes in my head, but will just keep it there for now! aww man....you're awesome, last thing I'm gonna say.
Stunning animation effects,beautiful colours,exceptional care for details,great scenery-old China in all its splendor,good story (predictable but who's complaining?),witty dialogue,compelling characters,excellent voice cast ( Jack Black,Ian McShane,Dustin Hoffman in particular),amazing fast-paced fight sequences,hilarious moments,spectacular scenes ( Tai Lung's prison escape,the suspension bridge battle,the chopsticks fight),terrific Chinese-influenced score,an interesting 2D opening almost Samurai Jack-like...How can one not love it!This movie is an absolute delight!THERE IS NO CHARGE FOR AWSOMENESS...
hahahaha.. cute po! he really fat but not embarrased with that! and the 'noodle dreams' make his father happy! i don't understand why his father is a duck!
Cute cute and cute! This film was charming it actually was great. I loved the Ian Mcshane voice I was intrigued to who this man was. He is from Deadwood fame and that voice is so sinnister. The film is super cute.
Great animation, eye-pleasing scenery and all in all a very enjoyable story. Casting Jack Black for the voice of Po the Panda was no less than a stroke of genius, because it's one of the main reasons as to why I thought this was a better-than-average CGI flick. So watch out Pixar, because your competition is obviously getting tougher by the year :-)
That's an exellent pop animation film. I knew that along with Wall-E, this movie would be one of the greatest anims of this year. Characters are funny and the plot is good.
Idea behind this one came from one of the animators about taking each kung fu fighting style to be represented by the actual animals. The result is a funny movie that has the most colorful and impressive animation to come from Dreamworks.
The action may actually "outweigh" the comedy! Very entertaining! Animation is outstanding, Jack Black is very funny and surprisingly the action sequences are really intense!
Very funny movie about an overweight and underachieving panda who is chosen to be the Dragon Warrior of Kung Fu. Jack Black voices the panda, and provides a great deal of laughs, as usual. A fun story and terrific animation make this a great movie ...(read more) all around. Lots of fun!
Fun adventure for all ages. Loved the fact that there was no potty humor, which I expected originally.
If Forbidden Kingdom was the one punch, then Kung Fu Panda is the follow-up two. I'm not sure what the recent fascination is with old cheesy kung fu movies -- and it may have begun late last year with the silly Balls of Fury -- but now we have two rather lovey-dovey valentines to these films released in a row. And they practically have the same plot, too, although given how generic that plot is, the coincidence wasn't hard to come by. Once again, a schlub who loves kung fu for its outward hy-yah! appeal gets selected as a "chosen one" to battle some great evil, so he's gotta get in shape and learn about karate's disciplines the hard way by training with tough masters. Of course.
To be honest, I dreaded going into Kung Fu Panda -- it looked ripe with opportunities to make bad jokes at the expense of what is essentially a way outdated view of Chinese culture. Not only that, it's also a DreamWorks Animation production, and I've grown to shudder at one of those when approaching it. They're reliable for delivering cheap humor, often crass, smart-alecky, and laden with current pop culture references and celebrity send-ups. If this approach is combined with what's essentially a cultural target -- well, the horrific possibilities seem endless.
As it turns out, Kung Fu Panda emerges as a pleasant surprise. It avoids easy targets and actually bases its humor in its performances -- voices and accompanying character animations. Nary a modern reference to anything can be found, and we can be thankful Larry King doesn't show up as a baboon or something this time. It's a completely self-contained little story, and it sincerely delivers its comedy and, yes, drama. Jack Black's voice performance, sense of humor, and, no doubt, point of reference for the main character's physical performance are what give the movie its modern accessibility, but I admit I was surprised when the rest of the story and characters actually provided a straight and calm, complementary background to Black's spotlighted antics.
The movie is not without weaknesses, however. It still has the American animated feature syndrome of making sure it appeals to kids, and the story gets hamstrung by corny lessons learned in countless other animated flicks, but it's also fair to say the movie doesn't strive for anything beyond that. The film is about an adolescent panda, after all. But bonus points should also be given to the filmmakers for being creative wherever they could. The introductory dream sequence is animated so stylistically well that I wish it didn't change into the usual 3-D animated look when it ended. But within that usual look, the animators give their world a vibrant and colorful atmosphere, and the anthropomorphic animals move fluidly and boast very expressive faces. Dustin Hoffman's character, whom I want to call a marmoset but I'm probably wrong, is especially expressive, an impressive feat all on its own.
Kung Fu Panda also thrives on action, where it may be at odds with its for-kids agenda, as this is the kind of cartoon violence that creates parental headaches caused by having to stop their kids from trying to chase and karate chop each other. But regardless of how this affects children, the craft in the action sequences is exciting to watch. It's quite similar to the over-the-top action in a Stephen Chow movie, and it's shot even better than those action movies which edit their fight sequences with a blender.
Any success derived from this enterprise probably comes almost solely from its technical delivery -- its humor, its animation, its voice-acting, its action. As an entertainment of the moment, it works well, but it doesn't have much ambition for more. The whole of Kung Fu Panda serves to solidify further the romanticizing of the old kung fu flicks. The homage has less to do with Chinese culture than with Chinese movies, and it amounts to the same love Forbidden Kingdom was expressing -- an earnest fondness for Bruce Lee, Shaw Brothers, crouching tigers, drunken masters, and five deadly venoms. All this, and DreamWorks is finally able to deliver an animated feature with a warm heart, sans condescending irony. Be sure to stay through the credits -- not to listen to yet another inane cover of "Kung Fu Fighting" (Can we make that song go away now? Please? It's more tired than the "Hokey Pokey" at weddings) but to catch one more example of this newfound sense of warmth. I hope it's the beginning of a good trend.

This movie is AWESOME. It reeks of awesomeness! One of my favorite animated kung-fu movies! Po was hilarious (i could see Jack Black in him) and adorable and pudgy and fun and adorable! I was impressed by the other celebrities who voiced the other characters. I loved the moral and message it had, especially Master Oogway's (the turle sage) quote. The storyline is great, the animation is amazing, and the kung-fu action was cool. GET READY TO FEEL THE THUNDA!!!
