Amazing how all the stories are woven together. It gives me goosebumps, and makes me flinch, and makes me cry in turn. Michael Pena clutching his daughter and Matt Dillon saving Thandie Newton being among my favorite moments.
Multiple characters, clashing lives, vaguely reminiscient of Babel. Emotional music soundtrack. All the actors do a superb job. I liked Terrence Dashon Howards performance. Absolute emotion filled and a good study of the characters lives.
How this film won it's Oscars is beyond me. Crash is a tale of racism and karma in the everyday life of everyday people and gives insight into how strangers can affect the path of a person and their demeanor in general. Crash is an ensemble piece and this factor works enormously in it's favour, it never pushes any single character further ahead than any others, instead giving equal weight to the cast. However, Matt Dillon and Terrence Howard prove to be the true standouts in this proportioned picture as they each give their roles the layers and depth that ultimately resonate further into the audience than any of the corresponding stories or characters. And, it is through this scripted tale of corresponding stories, that we feel for and connect with each of the characters on quite an intimate level; but this is also achieved through some fine camerawork and editing. However, as good as the script's movement and film's pacing may be, it ultimately is a good example of how shoddy dialogue can ruin a movie, shown especially through the cringe-worthy scenes of Bullock and Ludacris, who serve the racial tension of this film on a silver platter. And it is this ease of thought, where the film never provokes any further intellectual response from the viewer, that ends up dragging this film far down. This is a film that begins very, very badly with horrid speech and simplistic overtones, but eventually works into quite the moving tapestry; we could only wish though that Haggis knew the definition of subtle.
one of the 3 best movies directed ever. also the story is just wonderful. words don't say nothing. not even close
An overly manipulative collage of troubled souls. Still, it's not without its moments. In particular, the Matt Dillon subplot. But do we really need more music with the wailing woman score? Haggis went on to write dialogue for Bond...
I've removed everyone on my friends list who gave this less than a 3/5 or trash talked it. Give me a break, open your eyes and get educated.
People who have trashed this movie with bad ratings and reviews may as well be those narrow-minded individuals who are blind to what's really taking place in society and to their own prejudices. Hello??!!! It won best movie of the year! It's an eye-opening movie that portrays the reality of what American society has become. It makes you pause for a while to rearrange your stance in life and the gravity of your actions to others. Causes you to think & rethink Don Cheadle's soliloquy at the beginning of the movie. It is my opinion that every human being should see this film...
just wanna add that this is not a documentary so its bound to be artificial. it not even a docudrama.
one of the most racist movies made about anti-racist. totally pretious and contrived. totally fake.(yuck!)
My favorite movie ever, all the characters ar great,in fact the most "populars",Sandra Bullock and Brendan Fraser are the ones that maybe are not in the level of all the others, like Michael Pena, the scene with his daugther its the hardest scene I ever seen, the only movie that made my cry.....well,maybe the end of Braveheart also....
