Started out in the theatrical version of "Dangerous Liaisons" His first major film was Die Hard (1988) where he was cast as Hans Gruber.

Rumours, no one knows where they come from...
In this unauthorised biography which Alan hates so much the writer mentions that "someday he might find himself in church to marry Rima" but I believe that is just a wish op hopelessly romantic people. Moreover why should they want to marry? They have lived together for so long and that makes them legally married, they have the same rights as married couples in the UK.
Personally I find it much more tragic that he does not have kids. If Alan dies there is no one left to look at of his own blood, which is such a pity...

For me, it is his voice...it's like Christmas every day. I also love how expressive he is with hands.
